French Summer Language Institute 2017 at the University of Virginia/USA

Host Institution: University of Virginia
Coordinating Institution: University of Virginia
Website: http://sli.virginia.edu/french

Dates: 12-Jun-2017 - 04-Aug-2017
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Focus: The French Summer Language Institute will introduce French and Francophone language and culture at elementary and intermediate levels.
Minimum Education Level: Undergraduate

Description:
The French Department at UVA is pleased to offer an 8-week intensive French
language program designed for beginners at the undergraduate and graduate
levels. This program includes lessons in class and activities with animators
outside of class.

The curriculum incorporates various teaching strategies in and out of the
classroom to give students opportunities for authentic interaction and
effective language learning.

Unique to UVA’s Summer Language Institute in French, a special track has been
created to meet the needs of students preparing to pass proficiency exams or
preparing for research in French archives. These students will have the
opportunity to combine the regular SLI program in French with a special
session in translation specifically designed to address graduate students’
needs. Students taking advantage of the special “Graduate Student Session in
Translation,” will enroll and participate in all Institute sessions and
activities—morning, afternoon and evening—for the first four weeks of the
program. After acquiring a base knowledge and proficiency, during the second
half of the program graduate students replace the evening session with the
special translation course.

Structure of the Program:

Monday through Friday, students meet for three separate but coordinated
sessions: morning, afternoon and evening. This year, classes will start June
13th and end August 5th.

Attendance in the three sessions is required of all students, regardless of
whether they are enrolled for credit or non-credit.

Registrations are open. It's still not too late to join us this summer for
French Immersion at UVA! Please, feel free to distribute this information to
your students.
