Meeting Description:

The MAPLL workshop was first launched in early 2000 as a forum intended to
foster research on human sentence processing and related areas. It has been an
important event for researchers interested in psycholinguistics and the
cognitive neuroscience of language. It was held at Hiroshima University, the
University of Tokyo, Yamagata University, Kwansei Gakuin University, Tokyo
Metropolitan University, Kyushu University, Tsuda College, and Waseda
University.

Call for Papers:

Mental Architecture for Processing and Learning of Language (MAPLL) and Tokyo
Conference on Psycholinguistics (TCP) 2017

MAPLL-TCP invites submissions for paper (oral) or poster presentations in any
aspects of empirical research on human language. Studies from a wide range of
perspectives will be considered; including, but not exclusive to, those
conducting behavioral or neural experiments, constructing theoretical or
computational models, or inquiring into biological and/or evolutionary
foundations of learning or processing of language by native or non-native
speakers. Following the tradition of TCP, those focusing on “Plato’s Problem”
concerning language acquisition (How can we gain a rich linguistic system
given our fragmentary and impoverished experience?) are especially welcome.

MAPLL-TCP 2017 is held in conjunction with a meeting of the technical group of
thought and language of the Institute of Electronics, Information and
Communication Engineers (IEICE). By courtesy of IEICE, MAPLL-TCP 2017 uses the
IEICE online abstract submission system.

Submission Deadline (Extended): April 21, 2017 (23:59 Japan Standard Time)

Abstracts (less than 1600 characters; 300 words approx.) should be submitted
to one of the following pages:

Abstract Submission Form (Japanese):
https://www.ieice.org/ken/form/index.php?tgs_regid=0e1d30fce94613fe15f96657a6f

de1cbf669d828067e0fc13c0c710264d3f846&lang=eng

Note: If you are affiliated with Japanese universities/institutions, we
recommend that you use the Japanese form.

Make sure you are submitting your abstract for “National Institute for
Japanese Language and Linguistics” to the Technical Committee on Thought and
Language (TL).

Select your preference for presentation type (paper (oral) or poster). Paper
(oral) presentations are scheduled to be 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of
discussion.

All presentations should be given in English.

Since the number of slots for oral presentations is limited, some of the
abstracts will be accepted for poster presentations.

Acceptance or rejection will be notified by early May.

Tsutomu Sakamoto Award:

In memory of our friend and distinguished colleague professor Tsutomu
Sakamoto, the Tsutomu Sakamoto Award recognizes the paper or poster presented
at the MAPLL-TCP conference that best exhibits the qualities of intellectual
rigor, creativity, and independence of thought exemplified in Professor
Sakamoto’s life and work. Any first author of a presentation, who is not yet
tenured, will be eligible for consideration. Specify whether you are eligible
for the candidate or not in the “request” section of the submission form by
writing a note stating that “I am eligible for the award”.
