Description:

The Modern Languages Department at Denison University invites applications for
a one-year, full-time visiting faculty position beginning in August 2017, with
possibility of one additional year upon performance and departmental need.  We
seek applicants with a Ph.D. in Spanish sociolinguistics, with knowledge of
language pedagogy. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to Denison’s
institutional mission of educating in the Liberal Arts tradition and
willingness to engage in service. Successful candidates will be committed to
teaching undergraduate Spanish courses at all levels of the curriculum,
including introductory and intermediate language courses. Candidates may have
the opportunity to teach a course in area of expertise.  Evidence of effective
teaching and native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English are
required. Candidates should have a demonstrated potential for excellence in
research and scholarly publications. 

Preference to candidates with experience working with heritage speakers of
Spanish in the US.  Professional preparation in any of following areas is
highly desirable: Spanish in the Professions, Spanish in the U.S., Language
and Power, Discourse Analysis, Spanish in Contact with Other Languages, or
Phonetics & Phonology.  Preferred qualifications include: Ph.D. completed by
time of appointment, record of two or more years of successful college-level
teaching, commitment to undergraduate education and the development of the
student as a whole person, and willingness to work collaboratively with
colleagues.
