Meeting Description:

The 25th Japanese/Korean Linguistics Conference (JK25) will take place in
Honolulu, HI, from October 12 to 14, 2017. This year's JK will feature a
special session on endangered and understudied languages and dialects in Japan
and Korea (see below). We will also celebrate the contributions to JK and
Korean linguistics by Dr. Ho-Min Sohn, who recently retired from his faculty
position at University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, and commemorate the recent passing
of Dr. Noriko Akatsuka and celebrate her contributions to JK and Japanese
linguistics.

Invited Speakers: JK25 will feature five invited presentations by the
following distinguished scholars: 

Dr. Nayoung Kwon (Konkuk University)
Dr. Seongha Rhee (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies)
Dr. Masayoshi Shibatani (Rice University)
Dr. Natsuko Tsujimura (Indiana University)
Dr. Timothy Vance (NINJAL & University of Hawai'i at Mānoa)


Second Call for Papers:

We welcome abstract submissions for 20-minute presentations followed by 10
minutes for discussion for general sessions and the special session. 

General Sessions:

Contributions to any aspect of Japanese/Korean linguistics, or comparison of
these languages with other languages, are welcome. Comparative studies of
Japanese and Korean are especially encouraged. 

The Special Session on Endangered and Understudied Languages and Dialects in
Japan and Korea (organized by Shoichi Iwasaki & William O'Grady) (see a
separate announcement for detail of the special session)

JK25 will be accompanied by three satellite workshops:

Workshop 1: The interface of morphology and syntax in Japanese and Korean
(Organizer: Prof. Hiroshi Aoyagi, Nanzan University)
Workshop 2: Prosody and prosodic interfaces in Japanese and Korean (Organizer:
Prof. Haruo Kubozono, NINJAL)
Workshop 3: East Asian Psycholinguistics (Organizers: Profs. Yuki Hirose,
University of Tokyo, and Nayoung Kwon, Konkuk University)

There will be separate announcements about these workshops.

Abstract Format: 

Abstracts must be anonymous and must present original research that has not
been published. Abstracts must be in English, one-page long, in a 12-point or
larger font, with one inch margins at all sides and data and references on the
second page, if necessary Authors may be the first or sole author of at most
one abstract, and may be a non-first co-author of any number of abstracts. The
deadline for abstract submission is May 29, 2017. Authors will be notified by
late-July.

Abstract Submission: Abstracts should be submitted as PDF files via EasyChair:

When submitting your abstract through EasyChair, please enter the title of
your abstract and type ''the file uploaded'' in the spaces under ''Title and
Abstract'' and upload the PDF file of your abstract using ''Uploads''. Please
use the space under ''Keywords'' to:

- enter four/five keywords that describe the study
- indicate the intended session (general sessions or the special session)
- choose and enter one or two of the following eight categories for the
abstract: (1) phonetics/phonology, (2) morphology, (3) formal/lexical
semantics, (4) formal syntax, (5) functional/usage-based linguistics, (6)
sociolinguistics, including discourse and pragmatic analyses, (7) historical
linguistics, and (8) psycholinguistics
- indicate the preferred mode of presentation (oral, poster presentation or
either). Note that the proceedings volume will include only papers that are
based on oral presentations.
