Description:

The Department of German/Section of Linguistics at the Philological Faculty of
the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Germany) invites applications for a
Full Professorship (W3) for German Linguistics, with a specialisation on
variation and change in German. The position is to be filled as soon as
possible.

This professorship is particularly suitable as a starting position for highly
qualified early career researchers.

The focus of the professorship in research and teaching will be in the field
of regional language variation and/or in the empirical investigation of
language change. The professor will teach in all study programmes offered by
the Department of German at all levels and across a range of modules.The
professor is expected to be an active member of the research centre on
“Language Variation in Southwest Germany” (Forschungsstelle "Sprachvariation
in Südwestdeutschland") and the Hermann Paul Centre for Linguistics.

The successful applicant will be part of a team of Freiburg linguists
successfully engaged in empirical, corpus-based research with
interdisciplinary connections and cooperation.

We expect the successful candidate to have an outstanding record in the field
of regional German language variation and/or in the empirical investigation of
language change. The successful applicant will be engaged in the Research
Center on “Language variation in Southwest Germany” and will be an active
member in the Hermann Paul Center for Linguistics.

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an
outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial
achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of
a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.
