Meeting Description:

We, the organizers of HPSG 2017, hereby invite you to its 24th edition on July
7-9, 2017 in collocation with the Linguistic Society of America’s Summer
School hosted at the University of Kentucky. Featured speakers of the
conference are Dr. Emily Bender (University of Washington), Dr. Dan Flickinger
(Stanford University), Dr. Robert Borsley (University of Essex) who will
present a talk titled as Explanations and ‘engineering solutions’? Aspects of
the relation between Minimalism and HPSG, and Dr. Laura Michaelis (University
of Colorado) whose talk which is a co-author paper with Dr. Paul Kay is titled
as Partial Inversion in English.

On the first day, Dr. Emily Bender and Dr. Dan Flickinger will offer a
tutorial introducing the basics of HPSG and its implementation on a
computational platform starting at 3 p.m.

On the second day of the conference, we will be having a special session named
as The Languages of The Seven Session. This session will be held by the HPSG
community to support academic dialog and collaboration between all nations and
languages. The community’s goal for holding this session is to promote free
academic dialog in spite of policies which try to restrict it. It focuses on
languages from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, and is not
restricted to any particular theoretic framework. In this session, besides
presentations, there is a poster session as well. For further information
about this session, please click on this link: http://hpsg.uky.edu/node/18.

The Institute organizers have prepared an exclusive offer for accommodation.
University of Kentucky housing has designated an on-campus block in one of the
new residence halls of the university, Haggin hall. For just $35 per night,
you will have a shared suite – with two private bedrooms; for those who prefer
the suite to be rented as a private place, the suite can be rented for $60 per
night. The building is just steps from the Jacobs Science Building, where the
event will be held. The on-campus residence halls have central air
conditioning, (shared) kitchen space, meeting rooms and laundry facilities;
besides, the suites are just a short walk away from the downtown. It is the
place to be! For more detailed information about accommodation, please click
on this link: http://hpsg.uky.edu/hotel.
