Description:

This Tenure Track Assistant Professor will teach 5 courses per year, with
anticipated reassigned time of 1 course per year in the first three years to
dedicate towards research. Courses taught may include language, linguistics,
and pedagogy at all levels, including the required graduate level pedagogy
class for teaching assistants and monitoring graduate students in their
teaching responsibilities. Will direct thesis projects and participate in
graduate committees for the MA in Spanish as well as the proposed MA in World
Languages and Literatures. Possible observation of student teachers and
interns, teaching of distance education courses, summer delivery of
undergraduate and graduate courses, faculty-led study abroad.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD or ABD in Linguistics or Second Language Acquisition. Must have
demonstrated ability to teach Spanish and at least one other language
currently offered in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages
(Chinese, ESL, French, German, Greek, Japanese, and Latin) with native or
near-native proficiency. PhD in hand by August 20, 2018.

A very active research agenda in Linguistics or Second Language Acquisition is
expected.

Desired Qualifications:
Training and experience in Methodology/Pedagogy in the teaching of languages.
Potential for grant funding in Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, and
Methodologies of Teaching Language.

Preference will be given to functional research frameworks that use empirical
methods and that complement existing lines of research at UW.
