The School of Languages and Area Studies is seeking to employ is seeking
applicants for the role of Research Associate in Second Language Sciences.

Applications are invited for a highly motivated Research Associate to carry
out cutting edge research concerning the pivotal role of input and output in
second language acquisition using online (i.e. eye-tracking, self-pace reading
and listening) tasks, and measuring the effect of specific variables on online
interpretation tasks, as well as analysing second-language elicited
production.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in Second Language Sciences or a
relevant field, and have a strong background in second language acquisition
research. She/he should be familiar with psycholinguistic research methods
with evidence of previous research using various online data elicitation
methods.  Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience in
Instructed SLA research, in particular, and who are interested in conducting
psycholinguistic research with the aim of informing second/foreign language
pedagogy.  

The successful candidate will be working with a team of researchers in the
field of Second Language Acquisition in the Centre for Research and Innovation
in Language Sciences at the University of Portsmouth. She/he will assist in
technical training to use Eye-tracker and EEG systems in the new
Psycholinguistic Lab and will be involved in writing grant proposals. Teaching
for our current postgraduate provision and PhD supervision may also be
required, as needed.
