Abstract:

This book presents an overview of communicative language teaching and testing
in Central and Eastern European countries. It focuses on the impact of the
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching,
assessment (CEFR) and its model of language use. The author provides a
user-friendly introduction to the process of linking local language
examinations to the common reference levels of language proficiency in order
to encourage local examination providers to assure quality in high-stakes
testing. In response to different approaches in language examination
development, the book includes some practical samples as well as practical
advice on how to improve the effectiveness of the examinations developed and
implemented in local contexts.
