Hosted by the universities of Pisa and Oxford, these joint colloquia will
bring together international experts to discuss contact and variation in the
ancient Indo-European languages. The conferences will feature invited keynote
speakers, papers selected through a Call for Papers and a poster session.
Contributions in any areas of research on Indo-European languages will be
welcome, and an interdisciplinary approach will be preferred.

Variation and contact in the Ancient Indo-European languages: between
Linguistics and Philology
Joint Colloquia in Indo-European Linguistics

300-word (max.) abstracts for 30-minute papers (English, Italian)

Deadline: December 20 2017

The aim of the ''Joint colloquia in Indo-European Linguistics'' (hosted by the
universities of Pisa and Oxford) is to bring together linguists and
philologists who have a special interest in the ancient Indo- European
languages in order to encourage an interdisciplinary dialogue on language
variation and change and on linguistic interference, and to provide a special
forum for researchers from a range of perspectives and methods to come
together to discuss their research and develop new directions and
collaborations.

The Conference will feature peer-reviewed paper presentations, invited keynote
speakers, and a poster session. Contributions in any areas of research on
Indo-European languages will be welcome, and an interdisciplinary approach
will be preferred. Problems and methods of the study of language variation and
change and of language interference will be discussed, with a focus on the
following fields and sub- fields:

- Language variation and change
- Language contact
- Indo-European reconstruction
- Dialectology
- Sociolinguistics
- Linguistic identity
- Methodological issues of language change and/or contact phenomena

We welcome abstracts of up to 300 words for contributions of 30 minutes (20
min talk + 10 min discussion) from researchers at any stage of their career,
including PhD students. We invite potential contributors to send their
proposal to IEPisaOxford at ling-phil.ox.ac.uk, to state their name, institution,
and whether they prefer to give the paper in Pisa or in Oxford (please, note
that the preference is not binding, and flexibility will be much appreciated).

Abstracts will be anonymised and peer-reviewed by independent anonymous
reviewers. Successful candidates will be notified of the outcome shortly after
the deadline. The languages of the conference are English and Italian. A
publication is envisaged for selected papers.
