Meeting Description:

We are pleased to announce that our 15th annual graduate student conference,
Diálogos XV, will be held on March 2-3, 2018. We are seeking original research
in Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan linguistics, literature, and culture to be
presented at one of the Midwest's
premier graduate student research conference. This year we are organizing
panels for advanced undergraduate students to present their original research,
so please also forward this message to any students working on honors theses
or other advanced research projects.

We will have two keynote speakers at this year’s conference: 

Dr. Concepción Company Company of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México
(UNAM) 
Dr. Adam Joseph Shellhorse of Temple University.  

I have attached our calls for papers; please note that we have two separate
calls, one for literature and culture and another for linguistics. We ask that
you please forward this e-mail and the attached calls for papers to
your graduate students in addition to encouraging them to send us their
submissions.


Call for Papers:

The submission deadline is Jan 1, 2018. 

The XV interdisciplinary Diálogos conference, organized by the Graduate
Student Advisory Committee (GSAC) of the Spanish and Portuguese Department at
Indiana University-Bloomington, will be held on March 2-3, 2018. We are
seeking original research in linguistics. Presentations can be in Spanish,
Portuguese, Catalan, or English. However, languages object of study can be
other than the aforementioned (e.g., French phonology, Swahili syntax). We
welcome papers on a variety of areas including, but not limited to:
sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, phonology, semantics, pragmatics
dialectology, lexicology, language acquisition, language contact,
bilingualism, and psycholinguistics. 

Please send your anonymized 500-word abstract to gsac at indiana.edu with
“Diálogos 2018 abstract submission” in the subject line. In the body of your
email please include the following: name, title of your presentation, email
address, and institution. We also invite proposals for special panels which
must include the abstract for the panel and the individual abstracts for each
presentation considered for that session. Presentations will be 20 minutes
with 10 minutes for feedback/questions/discussion. 

Deadline for abstract submission is December 15, 2017. Authors may present a
maximum of two papers (one single-authored and one co-authored, or two
co-authored). Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by at least two
reviewers.

Conference timeline:

- Abstract submission deadline: December 15, 2017
- Decision sent with reviewer’s comments: January 10, 2018
- Decision to attend conference: February, 5 2018
- Preliminary program: February 5, 2018
- Conference start day: March 2, 2018
