Description:

The School of Modern Languages in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at
the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta seeks a Visiting Assistant
Professor of Linguistics. This position is full-time with a 2/2 teaching load
and is renewable for up to two years.

The successful candidate will have (1) a PhD in Linguistics or related field
in hand by Aug 2018; (2) an active research and publication agenda; and (3)
documented evidence of successful instruction and teaching across a range of
linguistics fields.

The candidate will join a dynamic, collaborative, and interdisciplinary team
of linguists across the School of Modern Languages at the Georgia Institute of
Technology. Our priorities include growing an innovative curriculum and
setting the stage for expansion into an interdisciplinary linguistics minor
and graduate programming, as well as strengthening research capacity across
disciplines. The candidate will be expected to teach Introduction to
Linguistics as well as specialized courses. Preferred areas of expertise
include corpus-based, computational, cognitive, or quantitative methodologies.
Interest and/or experience in applied approaches to language learning and
intercultural communication in one of the languages we offer (Arabic, Chinese,
French, or German) is considered an asset.

The School of Modern Languages (https://modlangs.gatech.edu/) emphasizes
interactive learning and interdisciplinary study of languages and cultures. We
offer an innovative B.S. degree in Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies
(ALIS) as well as degrees in Global Economics and Modern Language (GEML) and
International Affairs and Modern Languages (IAML). We are currently preparing
to launch a Master’s program in Applied Languages and Intercultural studies
and are planning an interdisciplinary MS in Global Media Cultures. The school
is home to approximately 60 full- and part-time faculty members. The Ivan
