Meeting Description:

The 24th Annual University of Texas at Arlington Student Conference in
Linguistics and TESOL (UTASCILT) will take place Thursday and Friday March
1-2, 2018. 

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Emily Elfner. Dr. Elfner’s research interests
are prosody and the syntax-phonology interface, and her current research
investigates the prosody and intonation of Kwak’wala, an endangered indigenous
language of British Columbia. More information about Dr. Elfner can be found

Location:

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is located in Arlington, Texas,
situated between Dallas and Fort Worth. Arlington is easily accessible by two
major airports: DFW and Love Field.


2nd Call for Papers:

UTASCILT invites abstracts on theoretical, experimental, and descriptive work
in all areas of linguistic research, including, but not limited to, phonetics,
phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, historical linguistics,
sociolinguistics, and TESOL. We especially encourage submissions of work
relevant to this year’s special session.

Special session:

This year’s special session will focus on the syntax-phonology interface. We
welcome all relevant work on this interface, regardless of language, to submit
to this session. 

Abstract Requirements and Details:

Presenters can choose between oral and poster presentations. Oral
presentations will last 20 minutes with 5 minutes for discussion and
questions. An allotment of time will be set aside for poster presentations and
discussion. Poster and oral presentations are considered, accepted, and judged
as equal counterparts, and the best presentations will be awarded the Yumi
Nakamura Memorial Prize in Linguistics, which is accompanied by a cash prize.

The deadline for submission is Monday, December 4, 2017 at 11:59 p.m.
Notification of acceptance will be distributed in January, 2018. Abstracts
should be a single page of 500 words in at least 12 point font, with one
additional page allowed for graphs and/or references. Electronic submissions
are required and should be uploaded to
http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/UTASCILT24 .

Presentations given at this year’s UTASCILT may be eligible for publication in
the UTA Working Papers series.
