Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Language Acquisition; Pragmatics; Semantics

Description:

The Leibniz-Center General Linguistics (ZAS, www.leibniz-zas.de) invites
applications for a full-time early-career post-doctoral research position in
language development and/or multilingualism in relation to semantics and
pragmatics with a starting date between January and June 2018. The appointment
is for a period of one year.

The ZAS is a research institute in the Leibniz Association. Its four main
divisions currently focus on the general research program 'Embedding, linkage
and constituent boundaries in speech, grammar and discourse'. The opening is
in either area II ""Language Development and Multilingualism" or area IV
"Semantics and Pragmatics". The ZAS is a university independent research
institute in Berlin, Germany. Currently over 25 researchers work in the two
research groups. The ZAS offers in-house experimental facilities for acoustic
phonetics, motion capture, eye-tracking, and uses the software R for data
analysis.

The duties of the position are primarily research oriented which includes some
administration. Some time can be set aside for the acquisition of external
funding. In addition, the appointment carries a teaching load of one class (90
min./week) per year that can be held at any university in the Berlin area. The
position is remunerated according to E13 of the German TVOeD pay-scale.
Limited support for conference travel, experimental work and/or linguistic
fieldwork is available.

Applicants must have defended their Ph.D by the time of the appointment. The
Ph.D. completion should be in or after July 2016 (except for documented cases
of forced interruptions of research work, e.g. for family or medical reasons).
Applicants are expected to have a strong background in language acquisition
research and theoretical linguistics (specifically semantics and pragmatics,
ideally discourse cohesion and coherence) and a proven research experience and
an active research agenda in the acquisition of semantics/pragmatics. Special
consideration will be given to applicants whose research integrates well with
the existing strengths of the ZAS and its core research program, or
complements it in an interesting way.

Applications must be submitted via electronic mail and include the following
four items (1, 2 and 3 in PDF format): 1) a letter of intent specifying
research experience and plans in detail; 2) the curriculum vitae including a
complete list of publications; 3) electronic copies of up to three
representative publications; and 4) the names and email addresses of at least
two scholars to be contacted for letters of recommendation.

Application Deadline: 04-Jan-2018 (Open until filled)
