Description:

NYU Shanghai invites applications for full-time Lecturer positions to teach
English for Academic Purposes to academically outstanding students from around
the world. Designed as thematically-focused freshmen seminars, these advanced
courses will teach integrated skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening),
with an emphasis on academic speaking and listening comprehension. Lecturers
teach 6 sections (or their equivalent) in a two-semester course sequence, and
may participate in proficiency or placement testing, and other program
activities. 

NYU Shanghai is looking for creative individuals who are flexible, outgoing,
open to new environments, and respectful of diverse backgrounds and learning
styles.  Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years EAP/ESL teaching
experience in higher education.  Ideal candidates will have experience working
with students from diverse cultural and language backgrounds, and will have
specialized experience teaching content-based speaking and listening. An
advanced degree in TESOL/Applied Linguistics or a related field is preferred.
The ability to design a thematic liberal arts style seminar according to CBLI
principles is a must.

In addition to course development and teaching, lecturers participate in
regular faculty development workshops throughout the academic year, contribute
to the program and university community through service, continue ongoing
research or practice in their academic or creative fields, and participate
actively in the intellectual life of NYU Shanghai. Appointments are for three
years effective August 1, 2018; contracts are renewable.

Review of applications will begin immediately for Fall 2018 appointments and
continue until positions are filled.

- A cover letter that explains your interest in teaching university-level
English in Shanghai, specific qualities you will bring to the program, and
your teaching philosophy;
- A current CV;
- A one-page sample course description, outlining a thematic focus you would
like to teach and the integration of language skills into that focus. Also
include references for 5 texts (essays, readings, films, other audio-visual
materials) you would incorporate into the syllabus. 
- Three reference contacts (you may also include reference letters).
