Meeting Description:

The 49th Annual Conference on African Linguistics (ACAL 49) will be held at
Michigan State University and the theme of the conference is ''Descriptive and
theoretical approaches to African Linguistics''. There will be plenary, main
and poster sessions. The plenary sessions will feature prominent researchers
on African languages. The main and poster sessions will have presentations
addressing different subfields of linguistics in relation to the study of
African languages.


2nd Call for Papers:

49th Annual Conference on African Linguistics (ACAL 49)

The 49th Annual Conference on African Linguistics (ACAL 49) will be held at
Michigan State University from March 22-25, 2018. The theme of the conference
is ''Descriptive and theoretical approaches to African Linguistics''. Besides
plenary sessions featuring prominent researchers on African languages, ACAL 49
will feature both a main session and a poster session. For the main and poster
sessions, papers addressing any subfield(s) of linguistics in relation to the
study of African languages are welcome. 

All abstracts will be blind reviewed for their originality, quality and
relevance. Main session talks will be allocated 20 minutes for presentation
with a 10 minute question and answer period. Poster presentations will take
place at a dedicated time with no simultaneous oral sessions. Submissions are
restricted to one single-authored paper and one co-authored paper per
individual.

Submission Guidelines & Instructions:

All abstracts should be anonymous and written in English with glosses or
translations for words or examples in any other language. Each abstract,
including the title and any data in figures or tables, must not exceed 500
words.  The 500-word abstract should be single spaced and in a font no smaller
than 11 point. Abstracts may either be submitted electronically in PDF, Doc or
Docx format by uploading them to the website below or via postal mail on a
Flash drive/CD/DVD to the address that follows. Faxes will not be accepted. 

Electronic Submissions:

To submit electronically, please upload abstracts to the following LINGUIST
List EasyAbs abstract submission website and enter all the required
information:    http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/ACAL2018 .

If you have never used LINGUIST List EasyAbs before, you may be asked to
register (i.e. create an EasyAbs account) when you try to access the website
using the link.

Postal Submissions:

To submit via postal service, please mail a Flash Drive/CD/DVD containing a
PDF of the abstract to the following address:

Please note that in order to present a paper or poster at ACAL 49, you must be
a member of the Association of Contemporary African Linguistics (ACAL). To pay
ACAL membership fees, please go to the ACAL organization
website(https://acal.linguistlist.org). Membership fees are collected by the
ACAL organization, not the conference organizers.

Deadline:

The deadline for receipt of abstracts is Sunday November 26, 2017 at midnight
(eastern time). Please be advised that late submissions may not be considered.
Because of visa requirements, prospective international participants are urged
to submit their abstracts at the earliest date possible.

Participants will be notified about the outcome of their submission by January
15, 2018.
