Meeting Description:

The International Workshop on Spanish Sociolinguistics is a conference that
brings together scholars interested on the study of language in society with a
particular focus on Spanish or contact situations between Spanish and other
languages. All fields and methodologies are welcome at this conference,
including synchronic and diachronic approaches to language, quantitative and
qualitative research, language variation and change, contact linguistics,
bilingualism and multilingualism, Spanish in the US, pidgin and creole
languages, language policy and planning, and language ideologies.

The 9th edition of the International Workshop on Spanish Sociolinguistics will
be held at Queens College, City University of New York on April 4-7, 2018. 

This year the conference will open on Wednesday, April 4 with two great
workshops. Individual presentations and organized panels will take place from
Thursday, April 5 to Saturday, April 7. There will be a poster session and
reception (with finger food, wine and a little show!) on the evening of
Thursday, April 5. The conference dinner (with music, of course!) will be held
at a Peruvian restaurant in Jackson Heights on the evening of Friday, April 6.

This year we have three outstanding keynote speakers:

Final Call for Papers:

The 9th edition of the International Workshop on Spanish Sociolinguistics will
be held at Queens College, City University of New York on April 4-7, 2018. The
purpose of this conference is to bring together scholars interested on the
study of language in society with a particular interest in Spanish or contact
situations between Spanish and other languages. We invite abstracts on any
aspect of sociolinguistic research for individual papers, organized panels and
poster presentations. 

Individual presenters should submit an abstract of 300 words in length.
Individual papers will be 20 minutes long, plus 10 minutes for discussion.
Panel organizers should submit a 300-word description of the panel together
with a 300-word abstract for each presentation. Organized panels can consist
of 3 or 4 participants for a total of 90 minutes or 120 minutes, respectively.
Presenters that would prefer to share their research in a one-on-one poster
session should submit a 300-word description of their poster proposal. 

Submissions are limited to one individual and one joint abstract per person.

Abstracts should indicate the type of presentation (individual presentation,
organized panel or poster). Please remove authors’ information from the
document submitted.
