Call for Papers:

CLARC 2018 seeks quality, unpublished papers that address the theories,
empirical data, tools, techniques and methodologies used in language diversity
research related, but not limited, to the following topics:

- Diminishment of linguistic diversity
- Language contact
- Language maintenance and shift
- Language documentation of minority and endangered languages 
- Language revitalization of minority and endangered languages 
- Language planning and policies of minority and endangered languages
- Maintenance of linguistic diversity through literary production
- Acquisition of minority, endangered and other lesser-studied languages 
- First, second and third language acquisition and/or processing
- First language attrition
- Heritage language acquisition
- English as a lingua franca
- Linguistic typology, especially as relevant to minority, endangered and
other lesser-studied languages
- Social, linguistic, cognitive and neurolinguistic approaches to
bi-/multilingualism
- New types of diversity and the development of new languages (natural or
artificial languages) 
- Corpus creation and linguistic resources for the study and preservation of
linguistic diversity
- Regional, urban and social dialect diversity and super-diversity 
- Language ideology and identity
- Linguistic human rights and linguistic imperialism
- Effects of linguistic diversity on communication and cognition 
- Usage models of language and cognitive linguistic studies 
- Comparative studies of metonymy and metaphor
- Social and cultural variation in cognition and language use
- Phylogenetic and ontogenetic approaches to linguistic diversity
- Biological and psychological conditions of the development of linguistic
diversity

We invite abstract proposals for individual papers and panels.

Individual papers :

Individual papers on topics related to the theme of linguistic diversity from
the perspective of sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, cultural
linguistics, cognitive linguistics, developmental linguistics (language
acquisition and language attrition), linguistic typology, corpus linguistics,
computational linguistics, communication science, and other related
disciplines. Papers may focus on any language and any social context or
historical period. We especially encourage papers considering endangered,
minority and lesser-studied languages.

We invite submissions of anonymous abstracts for 20-minute talks, followed by
a 10-minute discussion. Each participant can be the first author of one
presentation only. The number of joint presentations is not limited.

Abstracts should be in .pdf, .doc or .docx format and should include 300-400
words excluding the title, three key words and references. Anonymous abstracts
should be submitted in Croatian and English (authors presenting in Croatian)
or English (authors presenting in English). Please upload your abstracts at
http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/clarc2018.

Panels:

We accept a) abstracts of papers to be presented in the panels listed below or
b) proposals for panels on other related topics. The guidelines for the
submission of abstracts of individual papers for a specific panel session are
the same as for those submitted for the general session. However, under the
title of your paper abstract, please also indicate the name of the panel you
wish to be considered for. Please upload your abstracts for papers you wish to
present in one of the panels listed below at

listed below can be found on the conference website at

The list of panels already agreed upon:

- Linguistic diversity in language development (panel leader: Tihana Kraš,
University of Rijeka)
- Accentual variation in standard Croatian (panel leader: Mihaela Matešić,
University of Rijeka)
- Linguistic diversity, construal and conceptualization (panel leader:
Benedikt Perak, University of Rijeka)
- Syntactic diversity across time (panel leader: Diana Stolac, University of
Rijeka)
- Linguistic endangerment in Southeast Europe (panel leader: Zvjezdana Vrzić,
University of Rijeka)

Panels on other topics may be proposed by prospective panel leader(s) and
should be centered on a specific topic, approach or domain of linguistic
diversity research. We invite proposals for special panel sessions including a
minimum of five and a maximum of ten 20-minute presentations, followed by a
10-minute discussion. 

Proposals for panels should be in .pdf, .doc or .docx format and include a
200-300-word description and a list of presenters, titles of their
presentations and brief descriptions of their papers. Panel abstracts should
be submitted in Croatian and English (authors presenting in Croatian) or
English (authors presenting in English). Please upload your panel abstracts at
http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/clarc2018.

The working languages of the conference are English and Croatian.

Publication of Papers:

Publication of conference papers, subject to a standard reviewing procedure,
is planned for in the form of a special issue of the Croatian linguistic
journal Suvremena lingvistika. Additional publication plans will be announced
at a later point.
