Meeting Description:

NACAL is an annual gathering featuring the presentation and discussion of
original research on linguistic topics relevant to the languages of the
Afroasiatic phylum (Berber, Chadic, Cushitic, Egyptian, Omotic, and Semitic).
Topics related to all aspects of Afroasiatic languages, including phonology,
morphology, syntax, comparative linguistics, sociolinguistics, epigraphy, and
more are welcome.

We are also pleased to announce that the keynote speaker for NACAL 46 will be
Dr. Christopher Ehret, Distinguished Research Professor at UCLA. Dr. Ehret's
work includes historical-comparative reconstruction and classification of the
Afroasiatic phylum and other families across the African continent as well as
broader research on the history of Africa. His address is entitled:
''Expanding the Afroasiatic Reconstruction: Historical Linguistics in a
Deep-Time Language Family.''


Call for Papers:

Submissions are solicited for the 46th annual meeting of the North Atlantic
Conference on Afroasiatic Linguistics (NACAL) to be held at California State
University, Long Beach, CA, from Friday, June 1 through Sunday, June 3, 2018.
NACAL is an annual gathering featuring the presentation and discussion of
original research on linguistic topics relevant to the languages of the
Afroasiatic phylum (Berber, Chadic, Cushitic, Egyptian, Omotic, and Semitic).
Topics related to all aspects of Afroasiatic languages, including phonology,
morphology, syntax, comparative linguistics, sociolinguistics, epigraphy, and
more are welcome. 

All abstracts should be submitted in English with glosses or translations for
words or examples in any other language. Each abstract, including the title
and any data in figures or tables, must not exceed 500 words, excluding
references. Authors are asked to remove all personal identification from the
abstract. Submissions should be identified as talk, poster, or either. Talks
will be allotted 20 minutes for the presentation with 10 minutes for questions
and answers; posters will be presented in an open session on Saturday, June 2.

Submissions will be considered in two rounds. In the first round, submissions
received by January 15, 2018 will be considered for talk or poster
presentation. Authors who submit by January 15 will be notified by February
10, 2018. The second round is only for poster presentations; the deadline for
this round is March 1, 2018 and authors will receive notification of
acceptance by March 30, 2018. Abstracts should be submitted via Easy Chair
(https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=nacal46).
