Description:

The University of California, Irvine seeks a Lecturer with Potential Security
of Employment (LPSOE) for the Program in Academic English in the School of
Humanities.

Requirements: 
Candidates must have a PhD in Applied Linguistics, Composition/Rhetoric, or
Education or a closely related field by the start of the appointment on 1 July
2018. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in
one or more of the following areas: critical applied linguistics, global
Englishes, world Englishes, multilingual writing, L2 writing, ELF, CDA, TESOL,
or EAP. At least 3 years of teaching experience in higher education is
recommended. Preference will be given to candidates with experience or
demonstrated interest in ESL program administration.

The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Lecturer with
Potential Security of Employment (LPSOE). The L(P)SOE series is a University
of California-wide designation for academic senate faculty whose primary
responsibilities include administration and teaching, with secondary
responsibilities in research. Like Assistant Professors, LPSOE are evaluated
for reappointment and merit salary increases every two years and within eight
years (or fewer) are evaluated for promotion to Lecturer with Security of
Employment (LSOE), which has the permanence of a tenured position. Promotion
from LPSOE to Lecturer with Security of Employment (LSOE; the equivalent of
tenure) requires, in addition to excellent teaching and service, that the
candidate make outstanding and recognized contributions to the development of
their discipline and/or of pedagogy.

experiences in teaching, research, and language program administration; a
curriculum vitae; a 20-30 page writing sample; evidence of teaching
effectiveness (e.g., statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, sample
lesson plans; qualitative and quantitative student evaluations of teaching);
and at least three letters of reference. A separate statement that addresses
past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion must
also be included in the application materials. Completed applications received
by 30 November 2017 will receive full consideration. Preliminary interviews
will be conducted via Skype or phone.
