Description:

Michigan State University invites applications for the position of Director of
the Center for Language Teaching and Advancement (CeLTA), the support unit for
world language learning and teaching in the College of Arts & Letters. In
collaboration with the university language programs, CeLTA provides
professional development opportunities for language faculty, support services
for students, and language and culture learning opportunities to members of
the community. CeLTA nurtures the connections between language learning and
literary and cultural studies. This is a 12-month tenured appointment at the
rank of Associate or Full Professor, to start August 16, 2018.  

Responsibilities: 
- developing and implementing a well-articulated vision that addresses the
ways in which CeLTA can be a leader in the School, including collaborative
initiatives that further the Center’s mission and advance the School’s many
programs;
- supervising the executive associate director, who oversees the day-to-day
operations of the Center, and supervising CeLTA faculty;
- teaching 2 courses per year in one or more of the School programs; 
- supporting School faculty, language programs, and language learners in areas
including instructional technologies, professional development, assessment
needs, and other types of academic support;
- incorporating multicultural perspectives into teaching for 21st century
leadership; and
- supporting and/or collaborating with School faculty as they seek and apply
for grants.

Requirements: 
- Ph.D. in an area relevant to any of the language programs of the School.
Areas of specialization may include second language acquisition, applied
linguistics, language education, testing and assessment, cultural and literary
studies, and/or instructional digital technology and design; 
- near-native proficiency in English and in a language taught in the School; 
- experience teaching at the college level; 
- a significant record of scholarship in the candidate’s area of expertise;
- experience in grant writing; and
- demonstrated leadership skills.
