Description:

The University of Hawaii at Manoa, Department of East Asian Languages and
Literatures, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of
Korean Language and Linguistics, position number 83396. Appointment to begin
August 1, 2018, subject to position clearance and availability of funds.
Permanent, tenure track appointment.

Duties: 
- teach introductory and upper division courses in Korean language and
linguistics; 
- teach MA and PhD-level courses in Korean language, linguistics, and/or field
of specialization; 
- coordinate the graduate program in Korean for professionals; 
- advise undergraduate and graduate students; 
- conduct and publish research in area of specialization; 
- participate in departmental and university service; 
- other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 
- Ph.D. in Korean linguistics, linguistics, applied linguistics, or closely
related field, from a college or university of recognized standing (ABD will
be considered; all requirements for the doctorate must be completed by July
31, 2018); 
- two years of experience teaching Korean at the college-level; 
- active in research in Korean language and linguistics as evidenced by
publication; 
- high level proficiency in Korean and English
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students,
faculty, staff, and administration. 

Desirable Qualifications: 
- experience in advanced Korean language teaching and curriculum development
at the college-level;
- ability to teach graduate level Korean syntax courses; 
- experience supervising teaching assistants; 
- familiarity with ACTFL or ILR Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) scales.
