Research Questions:
- Standardisation in Early Modern English with a particular focus on
orthography: For how long did the variation characteristic of Middle English
persist, in handwritten and printed materials?

- How did standardisation unfold in the provinces? Did a
London-Westminster-based standard gradually spread or was it a more complex,
less unidirectional process taking place at different speeds in different
text-types?

Call for Papers:

ICEHL workshops are open to all ICEHL participants. Please note: Speakers who
have been accepted provisionally into the workshops by the organizers before
the ICEHL Call for Papers opened should also upload their abstracts to
EasyAbs. After the reviewing process, any abstracts that are not accepted by
the workshop organizers will be considered for inclusion in the ICEHL general
sessions.

Abstract submission will be through the EasyAbs abstract submission system
(http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/icehl2018). Submission will open 22 October
2017, and close 15 December 2017.

Abstracts should not exceed 400 words (exclusive of references) and should
clearly state research questions, approach, method, data and results.
Abstracts should also list three to five keywords. Abstracts can be submitted
as a *.doc (preferred) or *.txt document. If your abstract contains special
characters, please also send a pdf version to icehl20 at ed.ac.uk.

Notification of acceptance of abstracts will be sent out by 15 January 2018.
