Description:

The Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies and the School of Literatures,
Culture Studies and Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Chicago
announce a search to fill a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the
Assistant Professor level in Hispanic linguistics. UIC is a Hispanic Serving
Institution. It is a diverse, linguistically rich, research-intensive
university and provides a supportive environment for interdisciplinary
research.
 
We are specially seeking candidates in the one of the following areas (i)
bilingualism, broadly understood (acquisition, attrition, heritage languages,
processing) or (ii) formal semantics and pragmatics with an experimental bent
and a focus on a comparative perspective. We are interested in hiring a
researcher whose work is grounded in a theoretical perspective who can bring
cutting-edge experimental approaches to the department. Duties include
teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, advising masters and doctoral
students, pursuing an active research agenda, and contributing to the
university and community through service activities. Final authorization of
the position is subject to availability of funding

The faculty in the Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies serves 118
majors, 105 minors, and over 50 graduate students.  The department has MA and
PhD programs in literature and linguistics and an MAT, which includes a
teaching certification.

The linguistics section of the Department is comprised of six linguists, three
laboratories and a research group on Language in Context. It offers a Ph.D.
and an M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics, an M.A. in Teaching of Spanish, a
graduate certificate in Second Language Acquisition, and a B.A. in Spanish
with five possible concentrations including a BA in Hispanic linguistics.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in linguistics or a related field by the
starting date of August 16, 2018.
- Native or near-native competence in Spanish is required.
