Description:

Fairfield University is a co-educational, comprehensive Jesuit university with
a 200-acre campus located along the scenic shoreline community of Fairfield,
CT.  The University is comprised of approximately 3,500 undergraduate and
1,200 graduate students pursuing degrees within 5 schools: The College of Arts
and Sciences, The Charles F. Dolan School of Business, The School of
Engineering, The Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies, and
The Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions.  As an expression of

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Fairfield University
invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in
Spanish/English Translation and Interpretation to begin in September 2018. The
successful candidate is expected to:
- teach elementary and intermediate Spanish language courses; 
- teach courses in translation and interpretation and other upper-level
undergraduate courses;
- maintain an active research agenda on translation and interpretation or
related area.

The selected candidate may also have the opportunity to contribute to the
development of a possible undergraduate certificate in Translation and
Interpretation. 

This position requires:
- Ph.D. in Spanish/English Translation and Interpretation, Applied
Linguistics, or related area; 
- research agenda on Spanish Translation and Interpretation, or Spanish
Linguistics, or related area;  
- native or near-native fluency in both English and Spanish; 
- demonstrated excellence in using technology in the classroom and commitment
to pedagogical innovation;  
- knowledge of second-language acquisition theoretical principles and
curricular development; 
- ability to work with other DMLL colleagues to develop capstone courses in 
Translation and Interpretation. 

Ph.D. in hand at time of application preferred.  ACTFL OPI certification in
Spanish is desirable. Responsiveness to student needs and effective
communication skills are expected. Appreciation of or experience in expanding
campus diversity and multiculturalism would be viewed favorably.
