Description:

The Linguistics Department at the University of Kansas, Lawrence invites
applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in Syntax at the Assistant
or Associate Professor level, expected to begin August 18, 2018.   

The qualifying candidates must have a Ph.D. in Linguistics or a closely
related field.  A strong record of research and demonstrated commitment to
excellence in teaching are required. The University of Kansas is especially
interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the climate of diversity in
the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and to four key campus-wide strategic
initiatives (http://www.provost.ku.edu/strategic-plan/initiatives): (1)
Sustaining the Planet, Powering the World; (2) Promoting Well-Being, Finding
Cures; (3) Building Communities, Expanding Opportunities; and (4) Harnessing
Information, Multiplying Knowledge.

Duties: 
- Teach two courses per semester, including courses in Syntax and Field
Linguistics at the undergraduate and graduate level, advanced seminars in
syntax and field linguistics, and additional courses as appropriate to the
candidate’s qualifications; develop syllabi and prepare lectures; create,
administer, and grade exams; hold regular office hours.
- Conduct research within area of specialization and establish a research
agenda as demonstrated by scholarly publications and presentations.
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate student research; participate in
graduate and undergraduate student committees as appropriate. 
- Participate in Linguistics Department functions.
- Participate in Department, College and University committees.

Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Linguistics or closely related field, with a specialization in
Syntax, expected by start date of appointment.
- Strong record of research in Syntax, as evidenced by curriculum vitae,
publications, and grant history.

For appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, all of the above are
required. In addition, the individual must have a well-established scholarly
reputation for research and publication in their area of specialization, hold
and be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring. 
Additionally, they should be significantly engaged in other professional
activities including professional organizations, university committees, and
scientific review boards. The candidate must meet KU standards for research,
teaching, and service sufficient to qualify for an appointment at the rank of
Associate Professor with tenure.

Initial review will begin December 1, 2017 and will continue until the
position is filled.  

Salary:  Commensurate with education and experience.
