Subject: Release of Data from the French Lexical Network

Dear LINGUISTs,

We are pleased to announce the public release of lexical data exported from
the French Lexical Network. The export is available on the ORTOLANG platform
(free distribution under Creative Commons – Attribution 4.0 International CC
BY 4.0).

The French Lexical Network (fr-LN) is a formal model of contemporary French
lexicon, presently developed at the ATILF CRNS laboratory (Nancy, France). It
possesses the following three characteristics.

- Formally, the fr-LN is a Lexical System(1), i.e. a special type of graph
model of the French lexicon.
Nodes of the graph correspond mostly to lexicalized meanings of the language
(lexical units) and arcs to paradigmatic and syntagmatic links that are
standardized using the system of Meaning-Text lexical functions.

- The fr-LN is manually built according to methodological principles of
Explanatory Combinatorial Lexicology.

- The fr-LN is the product of a new lexicography, called ''lexicography of
virtual dictionaries''. Though structured as a graph of lexical units, the
fr-LN allows for the automatic generation of textual representations of the
lexicon, such as dictionary articles. It is thus possible to visualize the
information it contains either as a network of lexical senses or as a
lexicographic text.

Version 1 of the fr-LN export can be downloaded from ORTOLANG at the following
address together with a complete documentation (in French only for now):

  https://www.ortolang.fr/market/lexicons/lexical-system-fr/v1

The fr-LN construction is an ongoing project. We plan to upload revised,
corrected and augmented versions roughly every six months.
