Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Georgetown University in Washington DC
invites applications for a tenure-track position in Applied Linguistics at the
Assistant Professor level.

The ideal candidate will have significant training and experience in one or
more of the following key areas of applied linguistics: applied
psycholinguistics, focusing on adult second language processing; critical
applied linguistics, including the sociopolitics of language education and
language learning as contested sites of power and inequity; and/or applied
corpus linguistics, especially the collection, annotation, and
computer-automated analysis of nonnative and multilingual use of language.

We are especially interested in candidates who can augment and complement the
existing strengths in applied linguistics at Georgetown University and who
have a strong record of research and promise of continued scholarly
productivity. The successful candidate will contribute to the diversity and
excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and
service and will be committed to teaching graduate and undergraduate courses
in applied linguistics topics within their area(s) of expertise. 
 
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; full-time academic
year (9-month) salary; excellent benefits.

Basic Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or
related field. Degree must be conferred by the time of appointment.
Demonstrated record of research in applied linguistics. Demonstrated record of
independent teaching in languages and/or applied linguistics at the college
level.

Preferred Qualifications: Scholarly productivity as demonstrated by
publications in the field of applied linguistics. Demonstrated excellence in
teaching applied linguistics at the university level. Some proficiency in
language(s) other than English. Experience in mentoring doctoral students.
