Meeting Description:

The international conference organized by Semiosis Research Center covers
interdisciplinary dialogues on semiosis and focuses on the conceptual
understandings of sign actions and processes which are manifested in society
through various forms of representation. Semiosis Research Center is sponsored
by National Research Foundation of Korea and endeavors to project the ideas on
representation of culture and society by means of media.

The 4th ICSRC will be held on May 11, 2018 at Hankuk University of Foreign
Studies, Seoul, Korea with the theme ''Media Semiosis: Multi-Inter-Trans.''
Media theory is concerned with the mediation of information and
meaning-making. Each distinct medium produces meaning based on a system of
internal codes, or signs. In terms of meaning-making activity, multimediality,
intermediality, and transmediality have become buzzwords over the past few
decades; however, these terms are often used interchangeably, or mis-used,
sometimes giving rise to confusion or ambiguity. With greater attention to
current debates on multimediality, intermediality, and transmediality, the
conference aims to clarify the concepts of Multi-Inter-Trans regarding
relations among different representative forms of media, discussing prospects
and challenges of a closer co-operation between media and signs, including
their dynamic and complex relationship.
