Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics

Meeting Description:

The IRAAL annual conference aims to bring together all sectors of applied
linguistics in Ireland. In light of this year’s conference theme, we encourage
submissions that deal with any area of applied linguistics research. Topics
may include, but are not limited to, first and second language acquisition,
second and foreign language learning, multilingualism, new speakers, discourse
and identity, culture and language learning and teaching, translation,
language policy, e-learning, and language learning and technology. Submissions
from early career researchers are particularly welcome, including postgraduate
students engaged in Master’s and Ph.D. projects. The conference programme will
also include a project fair where those involved in projects can disseminate
information on their work.

Plenary Speaker:

Prof Shannon Sauro, Malmö University. Shannon Sauro is associate professor in
English language education in the Department of Culture, Languages and Media
at Malmö University, Sweden. She is past president of the Computer-Assisted
Language Instruction Consortium (CALICO) and co-editor (with Carol Chapelle)
of The Handbook of Technology and Second Language Teaching and Learning
(Wiley-Blackwell). She has taught English in Japan, the United States, and
Sweden and has conducted research on computer-mediated second language
teaching and learning in the United States and Sweden.
