Discourse-Stylistics, Sociolinguistics and Society: A Festscrift for Ayo
Ogunsiji

Call for Papers:

Opoola Ayotunde OGUNSIJI, a Professor of English at the Department of English,
University of Ibadan, Ibadan, has impacted on the academic sphere of the
Nigerian public for over 3 decades.  Professor Ogunsiji’s research works, as
published in (inter)national journals and books, have covered different areas
in English studies.  After his doctoral linguistic-stylistics research was
carried out on the literary giant and Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, his
research foci have revolved around areas in Stylistics, Discourse Analysis,
Sociolinguistics, Pragmatics and English Pedagogy.   This erudite scholar,
Professor Ogunsiji, clocks 60 in April, 2018.  For his contributions to
research and pedagogy in Stylistics, Functional Linguistics and
Sociolinguistics, Prof. Ayo Ogunsiji deserves a compendium in which his
research foci are developed by seasoned scholars to commemorate his
scholarship.  In his honour, the book, Discourse-Stylistics, Sociolinguistics
and Society has been proposed, and is designed to address theoretical and
empirical issues in the honouree’s research foci.  Linguists and other
scholars in cognate disciplines are invited to submit theoretical or empirical
studies that define the research scope of Professor Ayo Ogunsiji as follows:

1. The interface of stylistics, discourse and society 
2. Current theoretical orientations in discourse stylistics and
sociolinguistics 
3. Discourse stylistic theories
4. Discourse stylistics and society
5. ICT and the pedagogy of discourse 
6. Challenges of Literature teaching in the “screen culture”
7. Language teaching in the digital age
8. Creative writing in the internet domains
9cDigital English and its effects on formal writings
10. Curriculum and the challenges of textbook writing in Nigeria
11. “Hungry authors” syndrome and its implication on teaching and learning
12. Discourse analysis, pragmatics and society
13. Stylistics and society
14. Style and the works of Wole Soyinka
15. Review of Ogunisji’s position on Soyinka’s faction
16. Contextual beliefs/common ground in discursive contexts
17. Discourse strategies in texts
18. Ideology in discursive contexts
19. Stance and appraisal in discursive contexts
20. The sociolinguistics of Nigerian English
21. English, indigenous languages and globalization
22. English, indigenous languages and the issue of national integration
23. Language and Literature teaching/learning in Nigerian context
24. Varieties of English in the Nigerian educational context
25. The language of literary expression
26. Literature in the Nigerian (socio)linguistic and cultural space

The APA reference style is recommended, but papers in literature may adopt the
MLA style. Articles, which should be between 5000 and 8000 words long, should
be sent electronically to all the editors:
