Description:

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese in the Division of World Languages,
Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Iowa seeks to hire a specialist
in Hispanic Linguistics. The appointment will be a tenure-track position at
the Assistant Professor level, effective Wednesday, August 15, 2018. The ideal
candidate will have primary expertise in the field of acquisition of syntax
and/or morphosyntax in Spanish as a second language (SLA).

Required qualifications:
- a record of innovative research using experimental methods in the fields of
syntax and/or morphosyntax 
- PhD in hand by August 2018
- Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English
- demonstrated excellence in teaching

The successful candidate must be able to teach undergraduate courses in
Hispanic linguistics, language acquisition and syntax, as well as graduate
courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.

Desirable qualifications:
- ability to teach courses on bilingual language acquisition, including
heritage speakers.  
- ability to contribute to the existing graduate course sequence in syntax 
- ability to teach courses on research methods in SLA at the graduate and
undergraduate levels
- ability to teach the graduate teaching methods course

Typically faculty in Hispanic linguistics have strong collaborative
relationships with faculty in the Departments of Linguistics and of
Psychological and Brain Sciences, as well as the PhD program in Second
Language Acquisition. There are many opportunities to collaborate with
Division faculty to develop and teach interdisciplinary courses.
