Meeting Description:

The Research Institute for Linguistics, Hungarian Academy of Sciences and
Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary are honoured to
invite you to the 20th Hungarian Sociolinguistics Conference in Budapest,
Hungary between 30 August - 1 September 2018.

HuSlx is a biennial conference(Hungarian Élőnyelvi Konferencia) that provides
a forum to present recent research in sociolinguistics, dialectology and
applications. The focus of the conference is Hungarian as used in Hungary and
her 7 neighboring countries, as well as issues related to language maintenance
and shift, language rights, and language in education. The conferences
alternate between locations in Hungary and a neighboring country.
The main theme of HuSlx20 is language repertoires.

Language repertoir can be defined as the totality of linguistic resources used
in different social contexts by individuals and communities. Language
repertoir may include language resources linked to several languages or
varieties. We invite papers dealing with language repertoire both in a
traditional sense or with the latest implications.

Workshops can also be organized at the suggestion of participants. A one-page
summary is expected from the potential workshop leaders by 30 September 2017
to 20elonyelvi at nytud.mta.hu

The languages of the conference: Hungarian and English.

Plenary Speakers:

Peter Trudgill, University of Fribourg, Switzerland
Miklós Kontra, Karoli Gaspar University, Hungary
István Csernicskó, Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute, Ukraine
