Subject: Call for Papers: Spanish Socio-Historical Linguistics

Call for papers for an edited volume inspired by the panel “Spanish
Socio-historical Linguistics: Isolation and Contact,'' presented at the 23rd
International Conference on Historical Linguistics

Manuscripts are invited for an edited volume on Spanish socio-historical
linguistics. Scholars are invited to contribute their original and unpublished
research revolving around the crucial role of contact and isolation as
determining factors in the history of Spanish worldwide. Suggested topics
include the mapping of historical trends extending from the Old to the New
World, the exploration of innovations that began through contact or isolation
in medieval Spanish, or the investigation of sociohistorical trends still
prevalent in particular varieties of present-day Spanish. Ultimately, this
volume seeks to create connections among distinct geographical zones,
different cultures, and varied linguistic contexts, exploring the central role
of Spanish as a world language through a socio-historical lens.

It should be noted that, while the volume is inspired by the panel “Spanish
Socio-historical Linguistics: Isolation and Contact” presented at ICHL 23,
this is not a proceedings project. In other words, authors who were not at the
conference are more than welcome to submit their manuscripts as long as their
topic is in keeping with the theme of the panel.

Timeline for publication:

February 1, 2018: Manuscripts due
April 1, 2018: Double-blind peer review completed
April 15, 2018: Notification of acceptance
May 30, 2018: Corrections/revisions due
September 1, 2018: Book manuscript submitted to publisher

Please note that February 1 is a firm deadline for initial submission, and all
manuscripts will be reviewed by the editors and two external reviewers before
a decision for inclusion in the volume is made. The volume is expected to be
published in late 2018 or early 2019.

Manuscripts should be written in English, using LSA format and style, and
should not exceed 8,000 words, including references and tables.

Submissions may be sent as Microsoft Word documents to the editors, Whitney
Chappell and Bridget Drinka, at the following addresses:

whitney.chappell at utsa.edu
bridget.drinka at utsa.edu
