Web Address: https://www.english.su.se/
Job Title: Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in English Linguistics
Job Rank: Associate Professor

Specialty Areas: General Linguistics

Required Language(s): English (eng)

Description:

Main responsibilities:
The successful applicant is expected to teach various courses in English
linguistics, especially syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, and English
proficiency. The position also entails supervision of bachelor’s and master’s
theses, as well as some administrative duties. The applicant is expected to be
engaged in research and to initiate, organize, and lead research projects;
should publish articles in international peer-reviewed academic outlets,
primarily in the areas of syntax, semantics, or pragmatics; and should apply
for external research funding to strengthen the department’s international
profile. The position also involves administration, and the applicant should
be prepared to carry out administrative tasks when necessary.

Qualification requirements:
Applicants should have a PhD in English linguistics, or corresponding research
qualifications, as well as demonstrated teaching skills. The teaching skills
should be well-documented in a manner that makes it possible to assess the
quality of the teaching activities. Teaching skills include the planning,
implementation and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and
examination. The candidate must have the ability to cooperate, as well as the
ability and general suitability required to perform the duties well.

Assessment criteria:
In the evaluation of candidates for this position, special emphasis will be
placed on research skills in the relevant subject area (syntax, semantics, or
pragmatics) and, to an equal degree, on teaching experience within the subject
area. In addition, attention is given to administrative skills and the ability
to interact with the surrounding community. Strong emphasis will also be
placed on the documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues.

Following a qualitative overall assessment of skills and abilities, the
University will primarily consider those candidates who are deemed to have the
best prerequisites to perform and develop the relevant tasks, as well as to
contribute to a positive development of the department’s operations.

Teaching and learning in higher education:
Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education worth at least
15 credits, or equivalent knowledge, is an advantage.

Additional information:
Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but
the candidate should be prepared to carry out teaching and administrative
duties that require proficiency in Swedish within two years of employment.
