Subject: SyHD - A Research Platform on Dialect Syntax

We are happy to announce that the DFG project „Syntax hessischer Dialekte
'Syntax of Hessian Dialects (SyHD)'' (Leadership team: Jürg Fleischer
(Marburg), Alexandra N. Lenz (Vienna), Helmut Weiß (Frankfurt)) has been
successfully completed and the central results are now available online. In
addition to further information about the project you can also find more
information about the tools developed by Ludwig M. Breuer (Vienna) under
www.syhd.info.

The main component is SyHD atlas, a format inspired by “traditional” language
atlases, in which all of the surveyed constructions are discussed in detail
and mapped. SyHD atlas exists as an online version and as a PDF document. The
PDF version can be freely downloaded (Important: the file size is ca. 275 MB
and includes 688 pages with numerous maps) and functions as the citation
version (cf. citation recommendation within the document). The PDF version is
also located on the server of Marburg University’s library and is accessible
through a persistent DOI (dx.doi.org/10.17192/es2017.0003).

In addition there are further tools available for the interactive use of all
of the data collected in the SyHD project:

- using SyHD maps, all questions regarding the direct and indirect surveys can
be mapped; the variant and symbolization can be chosen by the user
- using SyHD-stats, diagrams based on the data can be created and all of the
data can be downloaded in different forms
- using SyHD query, the data can compiled to create new queries, which then
can be mapped using SyHD maps or displayed using SyHD stats.

There are video tutorials that explain all of the possibilities offered by
SyHD.info: https://vimeo.com/user63954194

It is important to the SyHD team that our data also be used after the
project’s end and for research questions that go beyond the ones covered in
the project.

Kind regards,

Jürg Fleischer, Alexandra N. Lenz und Helmut Weiß
