Job Location: New Hampshire, USA

Job Title: Assistant Professor of Linguistics
Job Rank: Assistant Professor

Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics

Description:

The Program in Linguistics at Dartmouth College invites applications for a
tenure-track position in Computational Linguistics at the level of Assistant
Professor to begin on July 1, 2019. A Ph.D. is preferred, though consideration
will be given to ABD candidates who are close to completing their doctorates.
The successful applicant will be trained in both linguistics and computer
science, including advanced programming skills and experience in computational
linguistic research, able to teach both introductory and advanced Comp Ling
courses, and able to apply computational methods in a range of linguistics
research areas. Consistent with the profile of the Dartmouth Linguistics
Program, experience in the use of computational methods and applications to
facilitate field linguistics or the understanding of lesser-studied languages
is also highly desirable. The position involves teaching a range of courses in
linguistics, including in areas outside of one’s specialization, advising
undergraduate theses and other research activities.

Dartmouth’s Program in Linguistics has five tenure-track faculty members with
a variety of research interests. The Program has on-going collaborations with
many academic units on campus including Native American Studies, Cognitive
Science, Environmental Studies, Anthropology, Computer Science, and
Dartmouth’s Neukom Institute for Computational Science. More information can
be found at the department website above.

Dartmouth College combines a commitment to innovative scholarship with
dedication to excellent teaching. The Dartmouth student body is diverse by
many measures. We are especially interested in applicants with a record of
successful teaching and mentoring of students from all backgrounds (including
first-generation college students, low-income students, racial and ethnic
minorities, women, LGBTQ, etc.). The successful candidate will have the
opportunity to contribute to Dartmouth’s undergraduate diversity initiatives
in research, such as the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, Women in
Science Program, E. E. Just STEM Scholars Program, and Academic Summer
Undergraduate Research Experience (ASURE).

Dartmouth College is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer with a
strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. We prohibit discrimination on
the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, sexual
orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, veteran status,
marital status or any other legally protected status. Applications by all
members of all underrepresented groups are encouraged.

Review of applications will begin on 15 November 2018 and will continue until
the position is filled. Applicants should submit a letter of application, a
current CV, and three letters of reference at the application link below.
Selected applicants will be invited for interviews at the Linguistic Society
of America’s Annual Meeting in New York City in January or by Skype for those
unable to attend the conference.
