Linguistics: Assistant or Associate Professor - Semantic Theory/Formal
Pragmatics (open until filled, initial review 11/15/18)

The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Cruz
(UCSC) invites applications for a position in semantic theory/formal
pragmatics.  This position can be made at either the mid-Associate Professor
level (with tenure) or the Assistant Professor level (tenure track).

We welcome candidates with additional strengths that complement their areas of
primary expertise.

The successful candidates will contribute to existing strengths in the
Department but will also add to those strengths in new and substantive ways.
They will contribute breadth and depth to the undergraduate and graduate
curricula, including the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. The
successful candidates must be able to work with students, faculty and staff
from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially
interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of
the academic community through their research, teaching, and service.

This position carries a five-course equivalency workload, which normally means
teaching four courses over three quarters and carrying other academic and
service responsibilities.

We welcome candidates who understand the barriers facing women and minorities
who are underrepresented in higher education careers (as evidenced by life
experiences and educational background), and who have experience in equity and
diversity with respect to teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or
service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

Academic Title:
Assistant Professor-tenure-track or Associate Professor-tenured

Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (nine-month
basis).

Basic Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in Linguistics or a closely related field;
record of research and teaching. It is expected that the degree requirement
will be completed by July 1, 2019.

Position Available:
July 1, 2019, with the academic year beginning in September 2019. Degree
requirements must be completed by July 1, 2019 for employment beyond that
date.
