Focus: The summer school offers one week of closely integrated lectures, workshops and panels which emphasize mixed methods 
and the multimodality of computational humanities.

Special Qualifications:
The applicants should be enroled in a PhD program at time of registration and should work on a PhD project  situated anywhere on the spectrum of Computational Humanities.


Description:
We are pleased to announce the 2nd Heidelberg Computational Humanities Summer
School "Mixed Methods in the Making".

The Summer School offers integrated lectures and workshops in the following
four key areas:
- Methodologies of Computational Humanities: Mixed Methods in the Making
- Computational Humanities in the Social Sphere
- Computational Humanities in the Cultural Sphere
- Computational Literary Analysis

This five-day event will offer PhD candidates cutting-edge research
presentations and hands-on workshops on mixed-method approaches in
Computational Humanities. A poster session gives young researchers the
opportunity to present their own work and receive feedback from peers and
experts in the field.

We are happy to announce that the Summer School is free to attend and that we
will be able to provide accommodation (4 nights) for admitted doctoral
candidates.

The deadline for applications is January 7, 2019. Applications should be
written in English and submitted via the web form (see
https://hch19.cl.uni-heidelberg.de/cfp/applications.mhtml). All applications
will be reviewed by a board of experts. A notification of acceptance will be
sent by 21 January 2019.

The Summer School is organised by Prof. Dr. Beatrix Busse (Chair of English
Linguistics) and Prof. Dr. Anette Frank (Chair of Computational Linguistics).

Registration Instructions:
The application (font: Arial, margin 1.5, pdf file) should contain:

- proof of enrollment in a PhD program at time of registration
- short CV (max. 1.5 pages)
- statement of interest with an outline of your doctoral research project
- your motivation for participating in the Summer School and indication of
your previous experience with computational methods (2 pages)
- abstract of a project to be presented in the poster session (including the
project’s purpose, key research questions, data and methods). The abstract
will be included in the online book of abstracts.
- one supporting academic reference outlining academic merits and suitability
for the Summer School (max. 1.5 pages)

Applications should be written in English. The deadline for submission is 7
January 2019. All abstracts will be reviewed by a board of experts, and a
notification of acceptance will be sent by 21 January 2019.

allows you to upload your letter of motivation, CV, abstract, proof of
enrollment and academic reference as one pdf file (other file formats will not
be accepted).
