Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Applied Linguistics 

Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor
(Ref.: 492470) in the Centre for Applied English Studies of the University of
Hong Kong, to commence on September 1, 2019. Appointments will be made on a
three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with
consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term
contract.

A Ph.D. degree in Applied Linguistics or a closely related field is needed.
Applicants should have the experience of teaching Applied Linguistics/TESOL
courses and supervising students at the postgraduate level. The Centre is
ideally seeking expertise in teaching and researching one or more of the
following areas: second language acquisition, pronunciation/phonology,
vocabulary teaching & learning, or intercultural communication. Other areas of
expertise that can complement the Centre’s strengths may also be considered.
Applicants should also have a track-record of research publications in
top-tier journals and the ability to attract research grants.

The appointees will primarily be required to teach the Centre’s M.A.
programme, supervise M.A. students and make a contribution to academic
leadership. Appointees will also be required to supervise doctoral students
and carry out research. Information about the Centre can be obtained at

A highly competitive salary commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications
and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical
benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University
contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic
salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
