Call Deadline: 31-Jan-2019

Meeting Description:

2nd Workshop (-cum Conference) of Nigerian Pragmatics Association

This event offers participants the opportunity to learn practical research
methods, skills and tools and also present their research findings or ongoing
works.

Call for Papers:

Theme: Context, Discourse and Knowledge Construction

Early bird registration has started. Kindly click on this link
www.pragmaticsng.org to register for the workshop: It is easy and cheaper than
on-site registration.

a. Participation is open to both members and non-members, so, kindly encourage
your colleagues and students to also attend.

b. There will be a pre-workshop symposium on theories of pragmatics; and given
that many theories will be discussed, the symposium sessions may have to be
spread across the whole period of the workshop-cum conference to ensure
maximal benefits of members.

c. There will be workshop and brainstorming sessions, as we had them in the
first national workshop at the Lagos State University in 2018; but beyond
these, special sessions are arranged for undergraduate students (and
interested graduate students) to familiarise them with the discipline of
pragmatics. You are therefore kindly enjoined to encourage your students to
attend. Group transportation is advised where many people will be attending
from the same place.

d. Participation is not tied to submission of abstracts, i.e. submitting an
abstract is not a condition for participation. The workshop, covering the
keynote, plenary presentations and brainstorming/training sessions, is a very
crucial part of the event.

e. Abstract submission is not limited to the theme of the workshop cum
conference.

i. Individuals working in the area of knowledge construction are encouraged to
submit their abstracts on the theme.

ii. Note that abstracts can be written on any area or topic related to
pragmatics conceived broadly as the use of language in context. All domains of
language use such as the media, medicine, religion, law enforcement, the
military, social media, academia, etc. are relevant sources of ideas for
abstracts for the Bowen Workshop-cum Conference.

f. Intending participants are encouraged to take advantage of the early bird
registration to register for the event by contacting the organisers. It is
cheaper.

g. Intending participants are also encouraged to book their accommodation as
early as possible to be able to secure accommodation inside or close to Bowen
University. See the attached flier for the persons to contact.

h. The LOC and the national body will work with regional representatives on
the provision of highly subsidised transportation of participants between the
University of Ibadan and Bowen University for those coming from a long
distance or those who do not know Iwo where Bowen in located.

Abstracts can be submitted on all pragmatically relevant topics. All abstracts
which can be 200 words (minimum) should be submitted electronically to
bowen2019 at pragmaticsng.org

In addition to submitting abstracts to the address specified in the
flier/poster, intending participants can also submit to the following persons
or the national president of NPrA:

a. Dr Ayo Banji (HOD, English Department, Bowen
University):tbanjiayo at yahoo.com
b. Dr Grace Olutayo (LOC Chair, Bowen University):omo1167 at gmail.com
