Meeting Description:

We invite you to participate in the 7th International Conference for Young
Humanists, Migration in the Slavic World in the 20th and 21st Century, which
will take place from 14 to 15 November 2019. The conference is organized by
the Student Section of the Association of Slavic Societies of Slovenia and the
Slavic Society Maribor. This year’s event will be held at the Faculty of Arts,
University of Maribor (Koroška cesta 160, 2000 Maribor). The conference is
intended for young Slovenists, Slavists and others who are engaged in research
within the fields of language, literature, education, culture and the history
of Slavic nations. The participants should be doctoral graduates, PhD students
at Slovene or foreign universities, or those who have already completed their
studies and are engaged in professional or scientific work within the proposed
fields. 

The topics for the conference are: 

Literature and culture:

- Migration as a driving force in the artistic creative process 
- Representations of migration in literature, theatre, film and popular
culture 
- New cultural and literary spaces 
- Migrants’ search for ties with their native country (correspondence,
lectures, periodicals), experience and memories (diaries, memoirs) 
- Migration and translation

Language:

List of 5 items
- The influence of migration on the formation of languages and dialects,
transfer and mutual influence of linguistic elements 
- Language resources and ways of expressing movement in Slavic languages or
their ancestors 
- Language islands in Slavic and non-Slavic territories in the light of
migration and language hierarchy (migration and linguistic inequality) 
- Critical analysis of anti-migrant discourse 
- Language policy and migrant children in the context of educational systems
(questions of intercultural education)

- Dynamics of social movements related to migrant questions in social,
political and historical contexts 
- Discrimination, cultural racism and nationalism in relation to the complex
intertwinement of migrants’ identities 
- Forms of virtual migration and escape from reality (social networks,
positive and negative aspects of new forms of modern technology …)

Call for Papers:

The application form, accompanied by a summary of up to 250 words and a short
CV, (both in the language of the presentation and in English) must be sent
electronically to 

studentska.sekcija.zdsds at gmail.com 

no later than 5 February 2019. The applicants will be informed as to whether
their topic has been chosen by 15 February 2019.
 
The working languages of the conference are all Slavic languages, English and
German. The papers must be submitted no later than 1 May 2019. All papers will
be anonymously reviewed and should be corrected thereafter by the
participants. All papers must be positively reviewed in order to be published
in the conference proceedings and presented at the conference. The time limit
for presentations is 15 minutes, followed by 5 minutes for discussion. The
conference fee is €10 and will be used in meeting the costs of the conference
proceedings. We are unable to reimburse any travel or accommodation related
