Description:

The Department of Applied Linguistics at Brock University invites applicants
for a probationary tenure track appointment as Assistant Professor in
Linguistics/Language Science commencing on July 1, 2018, subject to final
budgetary approval.

Brock's Department of Applied Linguistics distinguishes itself as the only
Canadian university department devoted to this sub-discipline. Its strong
undergraduate and graduate programs, while applied, are firmly grounded in
theoretical and experimental linguistics. At the undergraduate level the
department is well-established as a destination for those following a path
towards becoming a speech language pathologist (SLP) or audiologist. Our
pre-packaged Speech and Hearing Sciences program is specifically designed to
fulfill prerequisite requirements for students to apply to graduate programs
in Canada and the US, and graduates enjoy above average success rates. The
department has further established itself as the only undergraduate TESL
program in Canada that qualifies for official recognition to teach English to
adult immigrant learners in provincially funded language programs in Ontario.
The department also attracts students to post-graduate certificate programs,
which prepare students for admission to graduate programs in Speech Language
Pathology, Audiology, and TESL, if they completed their degrees in other
disciplines before deciding on one of these new directions. The department's
MA in Applied Linguistics program provides research-based perspectives on
Second Language Acquisition as it relates to teaching English as a Second or
Subsequent language, and prepares graduates for greater opportunities in
teaching, and for doctoral studies in Canada, the US, Europe and Australia.

Successful applicants will have completed the Ph.D. (or be near completion) in
Language Science, Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, or a related discipline.
The successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly research and
publication, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and participate in
university service. We encourage all strong candidates but preference will be
given to those with expertise in one or more of the following domains:
language/communication sciences, speech perception and/or production, speech
and/or language disorders, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, quantitative
methods, experimental phonetics, experimental second language acquisition or
bilingualism.

Applications should be received by March 15, 2018 to guarantee full
consideration, but will be accepted until the position is filled. To apply,
please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching
effectiveness, and three reference letters sent directly by the referee.

Applications may be submitted in either hard copy or electronically, although
electronic copies are strongly preferred.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and
permanent residents will be given priority. More information on Brock
University can be found on the University's website http://www.BrockU.ca.
