Description:

The English Language Center in the College of Arts & Letters at Michigan State
University seeks an accomplished educator and administrator to serve as its
Director. This is a full-time, 12-month, fixed-term position at the rank of
Academic Specialist. The initial appointment will be for three years beginning
August 16, 2018 with potential for renewal.

The Director of the English Language Center (ELC) provides programmatic and
administrative leadership related to vision, guidance, goal-setting, faculty
development, budget, and personnel for all programs of the Center including
Intensive English, English for Academic Purposes, and Special Programs. This
position also oversees the International Teaching Assistant program and the
Testing Office. The Director has significant outreach duties and works closely
with other MSU units on issues related to international student support and
undergraduate/graduate conditional admissions matters. This position also
represents the ELC throughout the university community and participates in
university-wide groups and committees related to international students.

- Program Planning & Leadership
- Center Administration
- Faculty Development and Oversight
- Outreach
- Professional Responsibilities

Required Qualifications: 
- Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field
- 3+ years of management experience, including administrative and supervisory
duties, in a university- or college-affiliated IEP or academic department
specializing in TESL, Applied Linguistics, SLA, or related field
- 3+ years of university-level teaching experience in ESL, Applied
Linguistics, SLA, or related field
- Experience in and knowledge of budgetary planning and personnel management
- International experience and demonstrated commitment to diversity and
multiculturalism
- Knowledge of and experience with language assessment, testing, and policy

Desired Qualifications: 
- Doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics or a closely related field
- Experience recruiting students to an English language program
- Grant writing and grant management experience
- Leadership experience in regional and/or national professional organizations
related to the field
