Description:

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Sam Houston State University
(SHSU) invites applications for a full-time (3/3 load), tenure-track position
in French at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a highly dynamic
professor who is eager to help build the existing French program through an
innovative vision consisting of curricular development and interdisciplinary
collaboration across colleges. The required teaching load is 6 courses
annually and consists of teaching French language, literature and culture
courses (with online and face-to-face delivery) at the elementary,
intermediate and advanced levels.

Minimum qualifications: PhD in French or Francophone Studies (in hand by
August 2018); preference will be given to candidates with interest in
Francophone culture and literature, including but not limited to Sub-Saharan
African, North African and Caribbean literatures and cultures broadly defined;
preference will also be given to those holding a secondary specialization in
language pedagogy; commitment to undergraduate education and to attracting
students from traditionally underrepresented populations; demonstrated
experience and documented excellence in language teaching at all levels;
experience in teaching online courses; documented potential in research and/or
scholarly creativity; familiarity with ACTFL standards; expertise in applying
new technologies to teaching language and culture; promise for actively
participating in the department's Language Learning and Teaching Workshop
Series; willingness to contribute to study abroad programs and a thriving
French Club. The successful candidate will also have native or near-native
fluency in French, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.

Teaching responsibilities are both at the main SHSU campus in Huntsville,
Texas (located 70 miles north of Houston), occasionally at The Woodlands
Center (40 miles south of Huntsville), and online. The College of Humanities
