Job Title: Postdoctoral Scholar

Specialty Areas: Language Acquisition; Phonetics; Psycholinguistics

Description:

The Speech and Language Lab in the Department of Linguistics at the University
of Oregon seeks to fill a postdoctoral position. Applications are invited from
individuals who have completed a PhD in Linguistics, Psychology, or Speech and
Hearing Sciences and have research expertise in phonetics, speech perception,
or speech production. Additional expertise in child language and/or
psycholinguistic theory and methodology is welcome.

The postdoc will work with the PI, Dr. Melissa Redford, to further an ongoing
NIH-funded project on speech rhythm acquisition. The postdoc's specific
purview will be either to investigate phonetic factors that contribute to the
perceptual coherence of prosodic words in child and adult speech or to
identify cognitive and linguistic factors that influence the development of
long-distance anticipatory coarticulation. The postdoc will be expected to
take over as lead (i.e., first author) on at least one on-going study while
collaborating with the PI to develop and advance new studies along a similar
line.

The postdoc will join a community of top-notch speech and language researchers
at our brand new Spoken Language Research Laboratories facilities. Our areas
of expertise are in speech perception and production, child language,
bilingualism, psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics. We also have strong
ties with faculty in Psychology, particularly in the areas of developmental
psychology and cognitive neuroscience. There will be ample opportunity and
encouragement to participate in the wider intellectual community at the
University of Oregon, including colloquia hosted by the Department of
Linguistics and the Department of Psychology. In addition to spoken language
research, the Department of Linguistics has significant strengths in
historical linguistics and field work.

To apply, please send a brief cover letter explaining your background and
research interests, CV including publications, and contact information for
three references as attachments in an email addressed to Melissa Redford.

The University of Oregon is an equal opportunity, affirmative action,
ADA-compliant institution dedicated to the goal of building a culturally
diverse and pluralistic faculty committed to teaching and working in a
multicultural environment. To these ends, we strongly encourage applications
from historically marginalized and currently underrepresented communities
including but not limited to ethnic and racial minorities, women, LGBTQs,
veterans, and the alternatively-abled.
