Master of Arts in English Studies (MAES)
Full-time 2018-19/ Part-time 2018-2020

Our taught Master's programme offers a unique opportunity to pursue in-depth
studies in English Linguistics and Literature, combined with capstone courses
for students to research and develop their own areas of interest. The new,
exciting capstone experience will culminate in a research paper and a creative
project to be presented at a conference for the academic and wider community.

Students will be introduced to a wide range of domains in English Linguistics
and Literature, taught by leading specialists in the field. Along with
introductory courses that provide foundational knowledge, Linguistics courses
include Global Englishes, Cultural Semiotics, Politics of English. Literary
courses include Travel Writing and Culture, World Modernism and Global
Fictions.

The programme has a cross-cultural focus on English Language and Literature.
Taking advantage of Hong Kong's historical, geographical and political
background, our courses consider language and literature in relation to Hong
Kong's position in the global world.

Programme Structure

Our programme is available in both full-time and part-time modes. The
full-time programme is an intensive one-year course. Full-time students will
have the option of specialising in either the Linguistics or Literature
stream. The part-time programme is offered over the course of two years. The
programme consists of two introductory courses, four seminar courses, and a
capstone experience in the form of a final research project and a conference
paper to be presented at a conference.
