Meeting Description:

The international conference “Urban Linguistic Diversity” aims to bring
scholars working in different fields of linguistics together to discuss topics
related to the investigation of language in urban contexts. We invite papers
linked to the overarching conference theme with special emphasis on
metropolitan cities, including, but not limited to, urban sociolinguistics,
geographical linguistics, anthropological linguistics, psycholinguistics,
multilingual education, multilingual societies/communities, linguistic aspects
of migration processes.

Dr. Dick Smakman (Leiden University), the Netherlands
Dr. Vladimir I. Belikov (Lomonosov Moscow State University and Russian State
University for the Humanities), Russia
Prof. Yaron Matras (University of Manchester), UK


2nd Call for Papers:

Urban Linguistic Diversity
Institute of Linguistics RAS, Moscow, Russia; April 9-10, 2018

We invite papers for the international conference Urban Linguistic Diversity
which is organized by the research group “Languages of Moscow” and will take
place on 9-10 April 2018 at the Institute of Linguistics RAS, Moscow. The
deadline for abstract submission has been extended until January 15, 2018.

We invite papers linked to the overarching conference theme with special
emphasis on metropolitan cities, including, but not limited to, urban
sociolinguistics, geographical linguistics, anthropological linguistics,
psycholinguistics, multilingual education, multilingual societies/communities,
linguistic aspects of migration processes. The preferred topics of the talks
will be:

- Multilingual/global city
- Language and migration
- Language policy and planning
- Language and identity
- Language contacts
- Linguistic landscape
- Language, education and diversity
- Heritage language maintenance
- Ethnolects
- Mixed languages

The conference will be held primarily in English (some Russian sections are
also possible). The deadline for abstract submission has been extended until
January 15, 2018. Notifications of (non)acceptance will be sent via email by
January 30, 2018. Please submit an abstract, up to 500 words (including
references), in pdf format to the following conference email address:
urban.linguistic.diversity at gmail.com. In the abstract, please include the
following information: your name and surname, your affiliation and position.
Proposals will be evaluated in terms of thematic relevance, quality of content
and significance.

Important Dates:

January 15, 2018 - Deadline for abstract submission
January 30, 2018 - Notifications of acceptance / non-acceptance
April 9-10, 2018 - Conference at the Institute of Linguistics, Russian Academy
of Sciences (RAS), Moscow
