Meeting Description:

In 2018, humour researchers and practitioners will gather in Tallinn, Estonia,
to discuss humour from its basic definitions to innovative research and
everything in between. Bringing together a variety of scholars, students and
creative practitioners, ISHS Tallinn 2018 focuses on the broad theme of
“Humour: positively (?) transforming” – its creative aspect and contextual
nature.


Call for Papers:

On its 30th anniversary, the 2018 International Humour Studies Conference
calls for proposals of papers, posters, special panels (90-180 min), workshops
(90 min) and other academic formats (including panels of flash presentations,
5-7 min each) related to humour research or the applications of humour
research in the arts, humanities, and sciences. The suggested topic areas
could cover, although are not limited to:

- Cognition and Creativity
- Public and Private Discourse
- Individuality and Individual Styles
- Culture and Diversity
- Health and Well-Being
- Language and Translation
- Media and Digital Technology
- Performance and Reception
- Body and Gender

Graduate students who submit papers for the 2018 International Humour
Conference can apply for the Don and Alleen Nilsen Young Scholars Award
(DANYS), Christie Davies Award (CDA) and/or ISHS Graduate Student Awards
(GSAs) by sending a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and,  for the DANYS
and CDA award, the complete conference paper to ishsconference2018 at gmail.com.
The deadline for Graduate Student Award applications is March 31, 2018. More
information on ISHS student awards can be found here. In addition, as a way to
encourage student participation, there will be student prizes (100 EUR)
available for the three best abstracts submitted via our registration form
before January 1, 2018, and selected by the conference scientific panel.

Abstracts of up to 350 words should be submitted by March 31, 2018. All
prospective conference participants are requested to fill in the registration
/ abstracts form (https://www.folklore.ee/rl/fo/konve/ishs2018/registration/).
Acceptance notifications for abstracts will be sent out on a rolling basis
within 1-2 weeks of submitting.

ISHS accepts both individual papers and contributions to our selection of
