Call Deadline: 28-Jan-2018

Meeting Description:

The Olomouc Linguistics Colloquium (Olinco) is a general linguistics
conference covering synchronic or diachronic aspects of grammar, phonology,
semantics, and pragmatics. Papers may treat language description, language
acquisition, performance, translation, or language deficits.

The conference will feature three invited talks:

- Johan van der Auwera (University of Antwerp) - The (ad/pro)nominal
similative: ad hoc in discourse, less so in grammar
- Alec Marantz (New York University) - Re-establishing the autonomy of syntax:
Abstract morphemes build interpretable structures
- Maggie Tallerman (Newcastle University, United Kingdom) - Externalization
first: language evolution requires communication

The conference also includes several thematic sessions:

- Parameters in the 21st Century, chaired by Anna Cardinaletti (Universita Ca
Foscari, Italy)
- Empirical approaches to contrastive linguistics and translation studies,
chaired by Volker Gast (Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Germany)
- A Study in Nanosyntax, chaired by Michal Starke (Tromsoe University, Norway)
- Nature of change, chaired by František Kratochvíl (Nanyang Technological
University Singapore, Palacký University Olomouc)

2nd Call for Papers:

We are inviting abstract submissions to the Olomouc Linguistics Colloquium
(Olinco), held on June 7-9, 2018 at Palacky University Olomouc, Czechia, the
fourth Olinco conference. Previous Olinco conferences have maintained a high
level and at the same time have been enjoyable and rewarding experiences for
attendees.

The general topic of the conference is language use and linguistic structure.
The contributions are expected to include justified proposals for linguistic
structure, and at the same time relate these structures to some aspect of
language use, such as information structure, phonetics, or meaning.

Please visit http://olinco.upol.cz/ for more details and for information on
submission of abstracts.
